Author Topic: Asserts for Locked Room Game Project  (Read 592 times)

Mostly usual stuff found in homes.

A scene in the game with the Heatstove I textured in Painter.

Welcome to the forum.  :)

Thanks for sharing your pictures.  I really love the toys, especially the wooden sword and shield.  I'll get mine, put on my Viking hat, and we can do battle.  :)

I was looking at the "room" picture, and something about the stove kept catching my eye, and I think part of it is the lack of shadows.  Then I realized shadows in general are missing.  I don't know how you're assembling the room, but is it possible to bake some shadows for the image?

Then, because I was staring at it, I had one other thought about the stove.  You have a lot of wear on the ribs that run around the barrel of the stove.  I suspect you used one of the Smart Materials or some generator in Painter to do that based on a curvature map or something like that.  In this case, sitting in a room, I think move of the "wear" should be manually erased, especially on the sides and as you get around toward the back.  I think it is unlikely the stove has been rolled around on the ground, so in real life it would not be worn all around, not like a 55-gallon oil barrel would be in an industrial setting.

I hope I'm not sounding harsh or too critical.  It's a cool room with good stuff in it.  That's why I spent time looking at it, and took the time to share my thoughts with you; thoughts which you are free to toss into the stove and burn.  ;)

Lastly, I was looking at the picture above the couch.  It's probably not your intent, but knowing what sort of game you're using this for, it reminded me of the library room in Myst.  It doesn't really look like it, but it triggered that memory anyway.  Myst is my favorite game ever, although I do confess to having played a number of seek-and-find games with my wife.

Thanks again for sharing.  You really have done a nice job, especially on the toys.  Love them!

You are right, the shadow seems missing, & I didn't notice it! Most likely I have deactivated them by accident. Thanks.

As you can see in the in this early footage video, there are indeed shadows.

You are right about the wear, that it should be front-loaded, by that logic, more dust should be at the rear also. I will take these input into consideration for future asserts' texturing.

New car model done.

If you tell me texturing is the most enjoyable part of 3D assert creation just a few years ago, I will laugh you off. But now, it is easily one of my favorite parts, thanks to Substance Painter. Watched the promote demo & was sold immediately.

Painting skin weights & UVing are still terrible.

WIth the car done, this finish 2 of the most time-intensive individual asserts (the other being the character), after the environment, which will be done in UE4 Landscape tool. I already have a snowscape scene (made by someone else for free for the UE4 community )with trees, falling snow, water features & some rock, which I can use already. There is also a nice snow scene in assert store which I may consider buying if the needed.

Gameplay updates on my game

Now, please give us the ability to save viewport Substance!

If anyone is wondering, the Fairytales Woods are the forests nested in the Fairly Tales road,  a tourists attraction in West Central Germany, where visitors visit many areas where many of Grimm Brother stories originated, sorry, I meant inspired.

Nice logo.  Thanks for sharing.

Nice logo.  Thanks for sharing.
Thanks a lot.

A new update for the project. No part of this is done using substance painter, but I thought I share as part of the project.

The gameplay demo is almost done. Here is the sneak preview of my game level. The significant next step is voiceover.

If you are wondering why the voiceover is the last step, the answer is cost & effort. Voice over (at least the ones I will be suing) charged by the word count, so its best to make sure you are very sure of the dialogs to use before sending over to a voice actor(ess) to avoid additional cost due to changes in the dialog.
