Author Topic: Texture Problems (Arnold, Substance,C4D)  (Read 424 times)

Hi guys,

I am not sure If here is the correct place to ask, for this issue of mine is related to couple of apps like: Substance Painter, Arnold, Unfold 3d and Cinema.

I just can't seem to get the quality / resolution of the texture as was I expecting.

I modeled this twig:

Unwrapped it Unfold 3d. Increased the texel density to maximum in my efforts to increase the quality. Not sure If I did it the right way. Here is a screenshot of unfold:

Then back to C4D. Exported as fbx for Substance Painter:

Attaching painter file here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8itjx1aicaknf0w/twig.spp?dl=0

In painter looks kinda okay but still not what I expected.

Exported the textures as 4k tiffs 32bit.

I lit it with some lights in c4d and arnold, and everything looks even worse. The roughness is nothing like in SP and the overall quality is bad.

Here is the file:

I downloaded an asset from Allegorithmic's Substance share:

https://share.allegorithmic.com/libraries/1769

I don't know where my problem is as I am trying to use multiple applications for which I have basic knowledge.

Excuse me if this question has been asked or is even for another forum.

Hi Elli,

Checking the UV, they are unwrapped well. However, they don't fill the UV space very much due to the shape. The result is you still get a lower texel density. With a high res image, the UVs are not allocating enough pixels so what you get is a low resolution result. In cases like this, I will sometimes enlarge the UVs and allow them to move outside of the 0-1 space. this will result a tiled image. Instead of tiling in the fill layer within Painter, you are essentially tiling the texture via the UVs in UV space by enlarging them outside of the 0-1 space.

Another option is to split the UVs so you smaller UV shell and then you can enlarge these shells so they cover more of the UV 0-1 space. In this case, you will have to deal with seams, but using triplanar projection for the fill layers should help with that.

Cheers,

Thank you for the information of extending the the UV out of the 0-1 space. When i do that the textures will come out nicely but all the maps are just black. I cant use even the material id becouse its all black or it will jus pick one colour. What will be the solution for this??
