Author Topic: Substance Plugin Update - Version 1.2  (Read 7878 times)

Well, I got it working!!! I had multiple substances directories, basically one for painter and one for designer.  I completely removed the one for designer (which was in my documents folder, and so is the painter substance directory).  Then I installed HDRI Studio from GreyscaleGorilla.  Then I reinstalled the C4D substance 1.2 plugin---again!  Then it just worked.  I shut down C4D and restarted and it worked again.  I went back to one of the scenes I had used Printed_Circuit in, then recreated the material, applied it, and it rendered.  Of course, I understand that the TeamRender is currently not working, so I did not even try that.  So I am not sure if you did some sort of long distance hocus-pocus...but it is working for now.  Thank you for your time and effort and courtesy in handling this issue.

I'm glad you got it working, even if I don't understand how.

I am trying to install the Substance plugin in Cinema 4D R19 on a Mac and I'm stumped immediately.  The Substance Plugin Documentation pdf file says to drop the .cld file into the Cinema 4D Plugins folder, but I do not see a .cld file in the Mac download folder (see attached screengrab).  Please advise.  Thanks.

Actually there's no need to install the plugin anymore. Since Cinema 4D R18, the Substance Engine is integrated in Cinema 4D. You find the corresponding functionality in the Pipeline menu.

Thanks for letting me know, a-block!  For some reason, my Pipeline menu was missing, but after resetting the C4D Layout/Workspace, I found just what I was looking for.

Sorry to jump in on this thread, but I'm experiencing similar issues with loading materials.
From 12 or so materials downloaded from Substance Source under half of them won't load - appearing as Invalid Substance Asset File.
I've also tried opening these .sbsar file in Substance Designer but appear to be empty......not data.
I'm on a mac pro with the latest Substance C4d plugin (08/03/18 issue) and Substance Designer was downloaded yesterday from Allegorithmic.
I'm new to Substance stuff, so help would be appreciated.

Hi Antonio,

sorry to hear you are having issues with Substances in Cinema 4D.

May I ask, which version of Cinema 4D you are using?

As stated earlier in this thread, since Cinema 4D R18 the Substance Engine has been integrated into the product, so the plugin is no longer needed. Only, the internal integration is being developed further, the available plugin should be seen as a fallback for R16 and R17 users.
For example the plugin does not support Substances created with Substance Designer 6 and above (I assume, this is your actual problem) unless they got saved with a backward compatibility flag set.
Support for Substance Designer 6 features was added with a service pack in Cinema 4D R18, so maybe you just need to update your Cinema 4D to the latest version.

So when is Cinema 4D gonna get some Substance love?
I've been using Substance in Unreal and have been loving that the Source database is so easily accessible... and now I read that 3DS Max & Substance has Octane and other GPU render options available out of the box.

Help a user out, any roadmap for us C4D users to get these features?
