Since Adobe is buying you, any plans to add photoshop brush file support to Substance Painter? Asking for a friend.. don't tase me man.

Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Technical Support - PBR SSS export

I am using the awesome new PBR SSS shader .. now how do I export the scatter map, I mean how do I set up the export in the configuration settings. I know it will not be grey scale. Also, can I even use it in the Arnold 5 ai standard shader? Plugging it into one of the Subsurface slots.

I have been blown away by many of the entries.. such amazing works of art.

I thought about this for a while and thought the car was a little futuristic in design, and that Allegorithmic is always looking toward the future of 3d Design, and what the most beautiful thing I have ever seen in nature, so my theme became Sunrise- Dawn.. a New Day. I did the gradient, then thought it needed a bit more and added the doodles. and some of the emissive aspects thinking about light. Then as a variation, I turned my doodles into emissive maps. I also have a turntable rendering in Maya Arnold, however, it has been rendering for 2 days and not quite halfway done yet (Yes I really Could use the video card). Of course, after looking at all the other amazing work other ideas have come to me if I were to redo. I had a lot of fun participating anyway. I do not consider myself a pro, since I have never held a job working in 3D. I am disabled and trying to teach myself this craft, but not in a school, so I entered under pro. I do not have much expectation of winning after seeing the other entries, instead, I just hope some find my entry pleasing to the eyes.

I was working on this model and had one of the material resolutions turned down to 512 so Substance would not crash. Completed work was going to do render, but when I turn the resolution back up everything goes bonkers. See images below. Also included zip folder with Dxdiag and log file.

Quick question, if I give someone the spp file from substance painter for an object I textured, will they be able to open it and modify it even if they do not have the same material on their shelf?

I have noticed that if I export an FBX file with stingray materials assigned, and then try to import into substance painter it will give me the
"[Scene 3D] Failed to load 3D scene.
No meshes in scene"
 If I export and then import an OBJ file then it does get a mesh. Only the material names are the default stingray material names instead of the names I assigned to them.

I have opened the FBX files in other programs, there is, in fact, a mesh there.
Is this a known bug?

I am using Maya 2016 and Substance painter 2017.2.0

I am a novice, so I am probably doing something stupid. I am trying to take PBR maps exported from Substance Painter and plugging them into PBR MDL node in substance designer to create an MDL file to use in Project Felix. Looks great in the 3D viewer once I have the maps plugged in, see attachment, but when I try to export the MDL file it gives me error and export failed box (also see attachment). Also attached are the two sbs files for the graph.

Thanks for any help you can give.

I am looking for a way to export and import MDL files into substance painter and substance designer, so I was looking ath the documentation here:

This line:
"Introduced in Substance Painter 5.5, you now have the ability to author a MDL , using the nodal graph power of Substance Designer."

Should say Substance Designer 5.5, not substance Painter.

While I'm at it I will also ask have you looked at the New Project Felix from adobe yet?

I use these tools extensively in photoshop, and would love it if we had them in Substance Painter.

I have to tell you it took me a couple of day to figure out how to do this in SP. The trick turned out to be using 4 planes for the window.. the two outer planes for the metal, and the two inner ones for the glass. Using three shaders, inner glass PBR - blend.. Outer Metal on glass.. PBR text.. and the normal PBR for the rest of it.

Now if Wes wants to make a tutorial to show how that's done, I would be happy to send the mesh.







.. or if someone knows how to get it done simpler I'm all ears.

Substance PainterSubstance Painter - Technical Support - Draw Straight Line

I love this feature, however, there is a small problem that could be improved. When you left click, to put down the first stroke, then hold shift, make your line, then left click to make the complete stroke, it re-imprints the first stroke again. If you have any spacing and height information, it can be quite obvious that the first stroke was hit twice.

Also is there a way to turn off the tool tips? When you shift that tool tip overlay can be in the way of my view when painting.

I don't know if it would be possible, but, I think it could be handy if on export you had the option to Combine all materials into one material and one set of maps. For instance I am working on a Galactic Carrier, it's a very large ship, hatches open to expose inside.. so I did it in several materials so I could isolate while texturing. Now want to send it to unity, and would be nice feature if I could just combine all the color, normals, metalics, etc.. into just one set of maps, one material for the entire ship now. Reducing my Draws once in unity. If more than one UV SET then maybe option to combine all materials for each uv set.

I was having this problem with substance painter 2.1 but it was intermittent. Now since the upgrade to 2.2 if crashes anytime I try and open it from the shortcut link. The only time I can open it is if I open from a substance file. Very frustrating. I mean it completely locks computer up, I have to hit the reset button, waiting, pressing escape, Shift Cntrl Del.. none of that works. I see a white screen with Substance painter 2.2 in top left corner, and the blue loading circle, only it stops spinning. I can not send an error report because it locks the system up.

Here is my system information.

intel core I7-4770 3.4 ghz
Windows 10 64 bit
16gb ram
MSI z97 Gaming 5
Pony Nvidia GTX750 Ti

I just did a fresh install of windows about a month ago.
